Intergenerational Panel on Shaping Future Landscapes
COP29 Baku, Azerbaijan

November 2024

Along with our partners, we have organised a 60-minute youth-led panel held at the SDG Pavilion in the Blue Zone to foster intergenerational dialogue on key climate challenges including carbon storage technologies, climate risk warning systems, carbon pricing, and nature-based solutions. 

This event brings together high-level experts and youth leaders to exchange ideas and develop forward-thinking solutions for future climate policy and action.

 

Talk on "Why Complexity Matters for Climate Change."
Children and Youth Pavilion, COP29

November 2024

TKS member Tanvi Mishra will be presenting a TEDx style talk at the Children and Youth Pavilion on the 16th of November at COP29 Baku. 
The session will look into role of complexity science for tackling climate change, emphasising emergent behaviour, feedback loops, and supercriticality, to serve as a quick introduction into the founding principles of The Keeling Society. 

Consultation with the Ministerial Envoy of Hungary
for the EU negotiations at COP29, Baku

November 2024

The Keeling Society has been invited to an online consultation with the Ministerial Envoy and lead negotiator of the Hungarian delegation for COP29 and State Secretary for Climate Policy. The topic of discussion will be the EU position going into COP29. 

Representing TKS will be Barbora Kvasničková and Yuhan Zheng. 



UN Environment Programme Conference
International Youth Day 

August 2024

Joseph Nguthiru, CFO of the Keeling Society, recently spoke at the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) conference for International Youth Day, on the topic of Future Forward: Youth Leading the Change on Digitalization for Sustainable Development, held at the UN Office in Nairobi, Kenya.  

The event was a collaborative effort by UN Kenya, including the International Labour Organisation (ILO), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), UN Environment Programme (UNEP), UN-Habitat, and supported by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA).

Partnership Announcement
Global Shapers Hub Budapest

The Keeling Society announces a new partnership with the Global Shapers Hub of Budapest. This collaboration brings together two organizations committed to fostering positive change and developing future leaders.

Global Shapers, an initiative of the World Economic Forum, cultivates young leaders to drive impact in their communities. The Budapest Hub, with its focus on innovation and social responsibility, aligns perfectly with the Keeling Society's mission.

Through this partnership, the organizations aim to significantly increase climate change awareness among Central European youth. By leveraging the combined strengths and resources of both partners, they will develop and implement innovative programs, campaigns, and educational initiatives to inspire and empower young people to take action on climate change.

Nuclear Week 
A UNFCCC Youth Initiative

September 2024

In partnership with the Science working group of YOUNGO (UNFCCC Youth Constituency), The Keeling Society will be hosting a Climate Café session on the topic of nuclear energy science on the 9th of September, 2024. 

The Climate Café will provide a platform for open dialogue and discussion on the role of nuclear energy in addressing climate change. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the scientific, technological, and societal implications of this complex issue. The Keeling Society will host the event website, providing additional information and registration details.

World Meteorological Organization Workshop
Modernizing the State of Climate Reports

July 2024

TKS Member Melissa Jiménez will be attending the WMO (World Meteorological Organization) Modernizing the State of the Climate Reports Workshop in Offenbach, Germany. 

The State of the Climate reports are among WMO’s flagship products, done on annual and multi-year timescales at global and regional levels. To ensure the quality and relevance of these reports, WMO, in collaboration with Deusther Wetterdienst, is organizing an international workshop on the State of the Climate Modernization in Offenbach, Germany from 9-11 July 2024.

Climate Café Series

jointly with the YOUNGO Science Working Group

Ongoing

Climate Café is an initiative started this year by the YOUNGO Science Working Group to facilitate awareness and nuanced understanding of novel and established scientific concepts relevant to climate change. These include, but are not limited to: carbon capture and storage, carbon dioxide removal, solar radiation management, sustainability technology, behavioral science, the IPCC’s function, climate modeling, natural climate variability, and more.

 

Our previous guests include distinguished academics from the University of Cambridge, the IPCC Vice Chair, and the WMO (World Meteorological Organization).
